Father of Revs’ goalkeeper Matt Reis in critical condition after Boston Marathon bombings
By Jimmy LaRoue
John Odom, the father-in-law of New England Revolution goalkeeper Matt Reis, is reported in critical condition from the injuries he sustained after the bombings that took place near the finish line at Monday’s Boston Marathon. The girlfriend of Revs’ defender Chris Tierney was also injured in the bombings.
More than 150 people were injured at three people died as a result of the marathon bombings.
Reis was at training yesterday to give an update on his father-in-law’s condition.
Odom suffered injuries to his ribs and legs and was about 10 feet away when the bombs hit. Reis himself was in Copley Square, having just moved away from one of the blast sites to head toward the finish line, and went to help victims.
“Ex-teammates, coaches from other teams, everybody in the soccer community has reached out to me and expressed their condolences and support,” Reis told MLSsoccer.com. “It’s been amazing.”
Reis had been at the marathon Monday to support his wife, who was running to raise money for the Patriots’ charitable foundation.
The Kraft family has announced that it would match, up to $100,000, any donations made to the New England Revolution Charitable Foundations on behalf of Boston Marathon victims.
