OMG! What a Move: Everton’s Darron Gibson shows quick feet, quicker thinking
Everton FC midfielder Darron Gibson isn’t known as a twinkle-toed dribbling wizard like Lionel Messi or Ronaldinho.
But the Republic of Ireland international showed off some magnificent technique on the ball during his club’s 1-1 English Premier League draw with defending champions Manchester City over the weekend.
Receiving a tough pass in heavy traffic, Gibson pulled the ball down out of the air with a dazzling first touch and evaded pressure from several Man City players with fantastic footwork and lateral movement.
The play didn’t feature a goal, though it still should rank among the game’s top highlights. Anyone who’s ever tried to keep possession in spaces that tight in a fast-paced game would likely agree.
Kids, this is why your coach keeps begging you to do ball work on your own outside of practice. Technique matters!
